When content writing was a hobby and became a profession

Presently I find myself in an interesting situation where the skills and experience that used to be just additional to my main job or my main part of life suddenly became vital to my very survival as a small business owner. I've been doing content writing for years - blogs, website content, guest blogs, articles, sometimes stuffed with keywords and sometimes much more free - all of this used to be something happening in my life, but somewhere on the sidelines, as I was busy with graduate school, communications work and teaching. Now I have to remember the strategies and tools I used to help others get noticed online in order to, well, get noticed online.

I enjoy writing immensely, especially when I have more freedom to play with the words and make my text personalized and anything but standard or predictable. Keywords are generally not a problem, but having too many of them or trying to put too many of them into a text is, in my opinion, a huge mistake that is made far too often. Anyone working in the field of content marketing or online marketing can immediately notice when a text is made to order instead of being a free product of someone's brain, fast fingers and imagination. A poet at heart, I love my present state where writing is what I do for a living.
